LETTER: Applaud, don’t chastise Hamilton Mountain councillor Scott Duvall for federal goal

Re: Duvall wants federal seat

As a parent, I would encourage my children to make the best of every opportunity that comes along for them to further their development.

As a manager, I would encourage employees to develop their careers further even if, depending on the timing, those opportunities may only be available outside the company.

So why would it be any different to applaud Mr. Duvall for taking the opportunity to pursue the federal NDP nomination the moment it presented itself?

Opportunities like this do not come along every day and, when they do, why not encourage him to take his political career to the next level?

As a Ward 7 resident, I am thankful for the time Mr. Duvall has dedicated to this ward as a city councillor and would be glad to have him representing me at the federal level. I look forward to him taking that same commitment to his constituents at the federal level.

I continue to be puzzled by the timing of Ms. Charlton’s announcement and her continued (and unusually vocal) resistance to the federal NDP nomination for Mr. Duvall, someone Ward 7 residents are very familiar with and someone who could provide a more welcome transition for the NDP party.
