Dundas Wentworth Lodge coronavirus outbreak resolved

News Apr 17, 2020 by Craig Campbell Dundas Star News

Wentworth Lodge long term care, site of the first, and so far only, COVID-19 outbreak in Dundas is testing every resident that shows symptoms of the virus.

City of Hamilton spokesperson Antonella Giancarlo said the sole case of the virus in the facility, and the outbreak itself, was resolved as of Wednesday, April 15. As of the next day there had still only been one lab-confirmed positive test in Wentworth Lodge, at 41 South St. W.

No other positive tests were reported at the many other long term care and retirement homes in Dundas.

Giancarlo said for privacy reasons the city can not confirm if the staff member who tested positive 11 days earlier, and began showing symptoms 18 days earlier, is back at work.

“We can only confirm that public health has now deemed the outbreak at Wentworth Lodge resolved,” Giancarlo said.

Contact tracing with lodge staff has also been completed, and all tests were negative.

“Moving forward, any staff and/or resident who is symptomatic will be tested,” she said.

Preventive measures in place at both Wentworth and Macassa lodges — the two city-owned and operated long term care residences — are updated on the direction of city public health officials.
