The Dundas Salvation Army food bank continues supporting clients, with a recent operational change in response to COVID-19 concerns.
Karen Sobierajski, program manager of the Dundas Salvation Army, said the food bank was letting clients do their own shopping at the John Street and King Street West food bank, but in order to remain open changed to curbside pickup only.
“Clients come to the open door but are not allowed to enter the building. We have made prepacked bags of groceries for them and are placing them as they approach on a pickup area so there is social distancing in place and no entry to the facility,” Sobierajski said.
The Salvation Army is working with Dundas Community Services to help ensure food is provided to Dundas seniors.
DCS halted its Meals on Wheels service after the City of Hamilton closed access to the kitchen at Wentworth Lodge — where hot meals were prepared — due to a positive test of a staff member. The organization now provides frozen meals to clients.
“We have been in touch with DCS about the seniors in Dundas and are ready and willing to deliver food in our area, which we have done and will continue to do on an as-needed basis,” Sobierajski said. “Donations in Dundas have been amazing, the Dundas community is so incredibly supportive of our ministry here. We wouldn't be where we are today without their generosity.”
