The 2020 editions of two of the most popular, annual, Dundas events were officially cancelled Monday, amid efforts to prolong the spread of COVID-19.

With scheduled large gatherings being cancelled across the country and around the world in hopes of curtailing transmission of the virus, organizers of Dundas International Buskerfest and the Dundas Valley School of Art’s Art Auction said the events were both cancelled, or at least postponed.

In an email to artists, DVSA staff stated it hopes to hold the auction later this year — but there is no way to establish a time frame yet. It’s also not clear if a postponing the auction to later this year will be possible.

“We cannot successfully run the April event and, most importantly, ensure the health and well-being of our artists, volunteers and attendees,” the DVSA email states.

School of art spokesperson Keir Overton said it is working through logistics and planning and will announce a new date for the auction when it is able to. He said when DVSA is cleared by Hamllton public health to hold the event, it will.go ahead.

On Monday morning the Downtown Dundas BIA board of management announced it had decided to cancel the June 2020 Dundas International Buskerfest.

“We have also been advised that the situation may not change for several months, making it impossible for the festival to continue this year,” the press release stated.
