How many coronavirus cases have been confirmed in Durham Region?

DURHAM  -- Two new COVID-19 cases were reported in Durham Region Wednesday, according to the latest figures from the Durham Region health department.

The total number of cases confirmed in the region since the beginning of the outbreak is now 1,821, according to the health department's statistics. The number of active cases in the region was 23 as of Aug. 5, with no patients currently hospitalized.

The majority of Durham's 1,819 cases have been resolved. There have been a total of 181 deaths attributed to the illness in Durham Region, 152 of those recorded in long-term care and retirement homes.

As of Wednesday there were at least 41,682 confirmed and probable cases and at least 2,789 deaths in Ontario, according to Torstar records of information released by public health units across the province. The Ministry of Health’s latest release includes the numbers as 39,714 confirmed cases and 2,782 deaths. The ministry’s numbers generally lag behind those reported at the local level.
