How many coronavirus cases have been confirmed in Durham Region?

DURHAM  -- The number of COVID-19 cases confirmed in Durham Region since the start of the outbreak had risen to 1,500 as of Wednesday, according to information released by local health officials.

In its June 3 update the Durham Region Health Department reported that 175 deaths have been attributed to the virus locally, 149 of those among residents of long-term care and retirement homes. Wednesday's numbers indicated an increase of 11 new confirmed cases from the previous day.

As of Wednesday afternoon there were at least 30,481 confirmed and probable cases and at least 2,358 deaths in Ontario, according to Torstar records of information released by public health units across the province. The Ministry of Health’s latest release includes the numbers as 29,047 confirmed cases and 2,312 deaths. The ministry’s numbers generally lag behind those reported at the local level.
