Up in smoke in upper Stoney Creek

News Feb 24, 2020 by Richard Leitner Stoney Creek News

Buying legal cannabis in upper Stoney Creek just got easier with the opening of Tokyo Smoke near the liquor store at the corner of Upper Centennial Parkway and Rymal Road East.

Manager Amanda Payson said the shop, Hamilton’s fourth licensed dispensary, emphasizes customer education by guiding people to choose a strain of cannabis that will bring the effect they’re seeking.

Along with accessories like bongs, rolling papers and pipes, current cannabis offerings include dried marijuana bud, or “flower,” pre-rolled joints, vapes and edibles, with a range of beverages soon to come.

An “intent system” breaks the cannabis products into six categories based on the properties of the strain.

The “Pause” intent, for instance, is for those seeking relaxation, while “Rise” is said to spark creativity and “Go” is designed for people who want to be energetic.

“It’s always making sure that their experience is going to be one that they are looking for,” Payson said during a tour of the shop prior to its official opening on Feb. 24.

Melissa Gallagher, director of franchising for Canopy Growth Corp., said the shop is the sixth in a chain of Tokyo Smoke stores in Ontario, with more to come, including on James Street North in Hamilton.
