Nominees announced for St. Catharines Arts Awards

The difference makers in St. Catharines culture will be celebrated with the city's annual arts awards.

More than 20 finalists are up for awards in four categories May 3 at FirstOntario Performing Arts Centre.

Kathleen Powell, the city's acting supervisor of cultural services, says nominees represent "the very best of the arts here in St. Catharines."

"We've had some amazing local artists nominated this year whose commitment, talent and contributions make them very deserving of arts awards."

This year's nominees:

Arts in Education Award: Amanda Nelli, Joe Norris, PK Hummingbird Steel Drums – Kay Charles & Patrick Nunes, Danielle Wilson;

Emerging Artist Award: Kylie Haveron, Rea Kelly, Ola Kiermacz,Mel Monaco;

Established Artist Award: Ayo Adewumi, Colin Bruce Anthes, Wayne Corlis, Geoff Farnsworth, Clelia Scala;

Making a Difference Award: Rhiannon Barry, Juliet Dunn, Mark Elliott, Emma German, Chris Illich – The Sound, Laurie Sadowski, Jeannette Tossounian, Willow Arts Community

Winners receive $500 and a hand-crafted award by Clayton Haigh of Balance Glassworks. The emerging artist category will feature two winners, each receiving $500 and framed certificates.

The awards start at 7 p.m. Tickets are $14.06 plus HST and fees, available at the FirstOntario Performing Arts Centre box office, at www.firstontariopac.ca or by phone at 905-688-0722.
