As temperatures rise in the spring, so do incidents of break/enters and theft from vehicles.

Often would-be thieves are simply looking for a crime of opportunity or an easy mark. Taking a few simple steps can decrease your chances of becoming a victim.

The Hamilton Police Service offers these tips:

•Keep your car doors, house doors and garage doors locked

•Remove all valuables from your car

•Remove your garage door opener from your car

•Do not leave keys in your vehicle

• Keep windows rolled up

•Keep house windows locked when not home

•Call 911 to report any suspicious activity or crimes in progress

Residents are encouraged to report all incidents where a home, vehicle or garage may have been entered, even if there are no items taken or the items are of little monetary value.
