The Ontario Fire Marshal’s office is investigating after flames completely engulfed a law office in Stoney Creek on Jan. 12.
Hamilton fire public information officer Claudio Mostacci says firefighters were called to the Centennial Law Group at 19 King St. W. at 12:33 a.m.
“When we arrived, we found heavy fire and smoke at the front of the building,” he said. “Firefighters worked quickly and were able to effect a successful knock-down and extinguishment of the fire with no fire damage to neighbouring buildings.”
No one was inside the two-and-a-half storey wood-frame building at the time.
Damages are estimated at more than $500,000.
Mostacci said local fire officials are not going to speculate on the cause.
The length of the investigation is contingent on a few things, he said.
“It depends on how much forensic digging they have to do and if they have to send stuff out to get tested,” Mostacci said. “If they can isolate it and find it’s just an electrical item that they’ve got plugged into the wall, that’s simple. But if it’s not that and they try to go through it and determine it (the cause), sometimes they can take quite a bit of time.”
