Nominations are open for the City of Hamilton’s 2015 Urban Design and Architecture Awards. Projects – which may include new or redesigned buildings; design or architectural plans; and landscapes – must have been completed within that last two years and be located in Hamilton. The deadline for submissions is Aug. 28. Winners will be announced at a ceremony Nov. 12.

The Urban Design and Architecture Awards is a biennial event that recognizes and celebrates excellence in the design of Hamilton’s urban environment. The types of submissions the city is looking for include: single buildings; groups of buildings; open spaces; landscapes; additions and alterations; adaptive reuse; and heritage restoration.

“We are not merely looking for projects that are visually appealing,” says says Khaldoon Ahmad of the planning and economic development department.

“Winning submissions promote excellence through good design and high quality of execution and incorporate sustainable design techniques, innovative design solutions and an understanding of the local community to create a positive sense of place.”
