Stoney Creek's Emilie Suwala, 16, was among 12 recipients honoured on March 9 by the Honourable Elizabeth Dowdeswell, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, during the 34th annual Ontario Junior Citizens of the Year Awards ceremony in her Suite at Queen’s Park.
Outstanding youth from across Ontario were recognized in front of family and friends for their inspiring community involvement.
Recipients also met Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne during a special presentation hosted by the Ontario Community Newspapers Association at the TD tower. Emilie, a Bishop Ryan Catholic Secondary School student, was awarded for her work with Bishop Ryan's Celtic Circle and teen mental health initiatives. Emilie, who has overcome her own mental health challenges, chatted with the premier about her work at Monday's event.
