Staff from the legal and public works departments will outline the city’s stance on Canada Post’s cancellation of home delivery at a public meeting next Wednesday at Sackville Hill Seniors Recreation Centre.

Following the staff presentations, the floor will be opened to questions.

The Feb. 18 meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. and is expected to last about three hours, said central Mountain councillor Scott Duvall.

Canada Post officials have been invited, but it’s not clear if there will be a representative.

“We told them it wouldn’t be a hostile environment,” said Duvall.

At a meeting with city council last week, a Canada Post representative said the Crown agency did not feel public meetings on the topic were constructive.

Canada Post announced last summer its intention to halt home delivery at about 36,000 homes on the Mountain and upper Stoney Creek in the spring.

The Sackville seniors centre is located on Upper Wentworth Street at Mohawk Road.
