Teen slashes officer with scissors in west Mountain confrontation

A 17-year-old male was apprehended after a Hamilton police officer was slashed with a pair of scissors during a west Mountain robbery investigation.

On Tuesday, Dec. 30, Hamilton police received calls from witnesses who saw two males breaking into cars in the area of Greencedar Drive and Anthony Street. Upon arrival, officers found a suspect matching the witness description loitering in an alleyway.

While the officer was speaking to the youth, the youth swung around with an open pair of scissors, striking the officer. The youth attempted to flee through the alleyway, discarding stolen property. The officer was later treated for cuts to his hand.

The youth was apprehended at the end of the alleyway and arrested. Property recovered was traced back to a vehicle that had been broken into in the area.

The 17-year-old, who cannot be named, is being held for a bail hearing and faces charges of assault with a weapon to a peace officer and possession under $5,000.
