State of the art facility to see 10,000 patient visits each year

After years of planning and fundraising, the new $5.2 million CIBC Breast Assessment Centre is now seeing patients.

Ceremonies to mark the official opening of the new facility at the Juravinski Hospital and Cancer Centre were held this morning.

The 11,000 square-foot centre has 18 staff and is being touted as a one-stop assessment and treatment centre for breast cancer patients where most patients will be able to access all the services they require including mammograms, ultrasound and pathology in one visit.

Patients can be referred to the new centre by their family doctor, an oncologist or a surgeon.

About 10,000 people fromHamiltonand the surrounding area are expected to visit the centre each year.
