Cards in Toronto tomorrow night

The Hamilton Cardinals will play the Toronto Maple Leafs at Christie Pits at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow (Thursday) in a one game playoff with the winner facing either Kitchener or Brantford in the Intercounty Baseball League quarter-finals.

Hamilton earned a spot in the IBL’s wild card game after defeating the Royals in Guelph 16-9 on Tuesday night.

The win enabled the Cards to finish the regular season in seventh place  in the eight team loop.

Toronto finished in sixth place.

Kyle Gappa went 5-for-6 for the Cardinals while teammate Andris Rizquez went 4-for-6, with two home runs and two doubles.

At Bernie Arbour Stadium on Sunday afternoon, the Guelph Royals jumped out to an 11-0 lead after two innings and cruised to a 14-0, seven-inning rout of the Cardinals. Game two of the home-and-home series was rained out Sunday night.

In London one night earlier, the Majors scattered 10 hits off Hamilton pitchers, including a pair of solo home runs en route to an 8-3 win.
