In the 10 a.m season opener for the Veterans Slo-pitch League, the A’s downed the Orioles 11-8.

Paul Burroughs and Mario Sardo ignited the A’s offence, with each going three for three at the plate. Jay Howes, Mike Freshwater and Terry Thibodeau all went three for four.

John Dudzic made a leaping catch in the seventh to ice the game.

Jay Howes and Mike Freshwater orchestrated double plays.

Neil Panabaker led the Orioles with three hits while Dave Sawatzki swung a hot bat. First sacker Clarence Baker and second sacker Mike Schuster were defensive standouts while outfielder Luke Haze waited forever for a long high fly to finally disappear into his glove.

The rest of the games were postponed and will be played at a later date.
