Ancaster High wins hockey title

The Ancaster Royals are headed to the SOSSA championships

next week after beating the Waterdown Warriors in the Hamilton public school boys hockey

championship.

Ancaster, which finished third in the four-team HWIAC

Division 1, beat the first-place Warriors 5-2 on Thursday at J.L. Grightmire

Arena in Dundas.

The Royals now advance to the Southern Ontario Secondary

Schools Association championships in Port

Colborne next week. Ancaster will take on Denis Morris

of St. Catharines

in the opening game on Tuesday morning.

The city championship is Ancaster’s first since capturing

the title during the 2007-08 season.

Four players remain from that team – Tim Black, Brandon

McMurray, Justin Grzenda and Jordan Galway.

Also next week, the Royals’ senior boys basketball team is

competing at the provincial championships in London.

The Royals have qualified for the Quad-A OFSAA tournament

and begin play versus HB Beal Secondary School of London on Monday at 2:45 p.m.
