BT senior football team advances to second round

Defence and special teams paved the way to a playoff quarter-final victory for the Bishop Tonnos Titans Senior football team. A blocked punt returned for a touchdown and three interceptions helped the Titans beat the Cathedral Gaels 11-6.

After Cathedral opened the scoring with a 32-yard touchdown reception by Abdi Elmi, the Titans responded with a touchdown off a blocked punt by Thomas Stawiarski. Titans’ kicker Domenic Bellardini accounted for the rest of the scoring with a convert, 14-yard field goal and a single on a missed attempt from 34-yards. The stat line wasn’t impressive for the Titans, who mustered only four first downs in the victory. Quarterback Tory Morgan was two for 12 passing for just 10 yards and two interceptions. The Titans had 86 yards of net offence against 236 for Cathedral.

Running back Jake Reddick had 46 yards on eight carries to lead the BT offence. The Titans advance to quarter-final play versus St. Thomas More. Results were not available at press time.
