A Hamilton police officer has been suspended with pay after being

charged with stealing narcotic pain relievers from a locked drug deposit box at

Central Station.

Constable Andrew Pauls, 32, is scheduled to appear in court

on Sept. 2 to face five charges, including two counts of theft under $5,000,

possession of stolen property under $5,000, possession of a controlled drug,

and breach of trust.

The nine-year veteran’s Aug. 6 arrest came after “an

extensive investigation with the assistance of outside police services” into

the July 23 theft of Oxycocet tablets, Hamilton police said.

Oxycocet, also known as oxycodone, is similar to morphine

and can be addictive.
