More than 1,000 Hamilton and area Sikhs participated in the Sikh Martyrdom Day parade, Sunday afternoon, starting in Dundas. They marched from the Gursikh Sangat Hamilton temple on Old Guelph Road to Sir John A. Macdonald School in downtown Hamilton in honour of Guru Arjan Dev Ji, the fifth master of the Sikh faith, who was tortured and executed more than 400 years ago. According to the 2001 Census, there are 3,655 members of the Sikh religion in Hamilton.
