BT student wins scholarship

Julia Sanges, a student at Bishop Tonnos Catholic Secondary School, is the first recipient of the Amanda Viger Memorial Student Leadership Scholarship.

With her strong people skills and passion for the cause, Julia rallied her peers and supporting adults to take down Big Tobacco through a wide range of school events.

Described as optimistic and armed with a positive outlook, Julia embodies all the characteristics that Amanda Viger was well known for.

The award is named for Amanda Viger, an active student leader in the Cardinal Newman Catholic Secondary School community and dedicated member of the Hamilton Crew for Action Against Tobacco (HCAAT). Amanda is remembered not only for her exceptional courage but as a leadership role model for all.

Amanda, a vivacious, intuitive and inspiring young woman touched many lives even during her courageous battle with cancer. Award nominees are eligible to receive a $1,000 scholarship towards their post-secondary education.
