Re: High school closure process begins January 2011, March 11 The News.

Trustees for the Hamilton Wentworth District School Board have decided to delay the decision to close any of the city's high schools until January 2011.

The reason, according to school board chairperson Jessica Brennan: "By starting in January 2011, this will be an opportunity for the new board of trustees to be involved in the process right from the beginning."

They have gone from the sooner the better because some of the schools being considered need expensive repairs, so lets wait until after this October's municipal election so no one on the board will have to deal with the fall-out from deciding which schools to close. This is self-serving and unacceptable. People deserve to know if a school in their area is to be closed sooner rather than later and children shouldn't be going to a school that is in need of repair unnecessarily or for an artificially prolonged period of time.

This decision may very well backfire on trustees. I will not support my incumbent if he or she supports this decision.
