Titans steal a win

It was a great day for football and a great atmosphere at Bishop Tonnos as fans celebrated a gridiron victory over the St. Thomas More Knights.

Second half interceptions by David Matthews and Dylan Campbell secured a 20-6 home win for the Titans Senior football team over St. Thomas More on Sept. 25.

Leading 8-6 midway through the third quarter, the Titans’ David Matthews picked off a More pass and raced deep into Knights territory to set up the game’s final touchdown. The Titans’ run-stopping defense made the lead stand up. A field goal and safety rounded out the scoring for the 2-1 Titans.

About 200 fans rushed onto the field following the final whistle to congratulate the Senior squad on a rare victory over More. The Knights won the Catholic city championship in 2007 and 2008.

The Senior Titans kicked off the season with a 13-0 shutout of St. Marys. TheTitans lost in week two, 21-14 at Bishop Ryan.

The Junior Titans lost 31-14 to STM on Sept. 25, dropping their record to 1-1.
