Online poll results questioned

Re: Online poll August 14

The quality of an answer is directly proportional to the quality of the question.

The results of the online poll from August 14 (Heavy rains, intense storms, cool July. Is it possible the strange weather patterns are just part of the natural course of life?) would suggest that the majority of locals believe the unusual weather of this summer is within natural variation, as it may be. Thank goodness! We can turn up the A/C and go back to driving our Hummers!

However, the results are essentially meaningless as the opposite of that question would likely return the same results. That is, had the question been phrased “Is it possible the weather patterns are NOT just part of the natural course of life?” would probably have had the majority of respondents agreeing with this statement as well. In fact, substantial current scientific evidence strongly indicates that recent weather patterns are not normal and are indeed a result of human-induced global warming.
