TownePlace Suites by Marriott on Hamilton Mountain nearly finished

Hamilton Mountain’s newest hotel is nearing completion.

“It’s about 80 per cent complete,” said Anupam Kothari, president of the Mississauga-based Kothari Group who teamed up with Oakville-based Sigma Group in the spring of 2019 to begin construction of the $20-million, four-storey, 125-room TownePlace Suites by Marriott hotel behind Shoeless Joe’s on Upper James near the Linc. “The structure is completely done, it’s all interior work now.”

Kothari said they expect construction to wrap up in mid-September, followed by a month of moving in furnishings and final touches.

They are targeting Nov. 3 to open and have begun taking reservations for after that date.

“It’s still a long haul for the hotel industry but we’re seeing signs of life,” said Kothari, who noted the coronavirus pandemic forced them to stop work last spring for 60 days.

“We’re basically about two months behind schedule,” he said.

The new hotel is aimed at the extended-stay traveller and each room will have a full kitchen.

When it opens, the hotel is expected to create 35 new full-time jobs.

Kothari said previously the hotel’s proximity to the John C. Munro-Hamilton International Airport also bodes well for business.

The new hotel is not affiliated with the nearby Courtyard by Marriott.
