Dolorina de Souza has worked at the Governors Road Metro grocery store for 11 years and despite craziness surrounding COVID-19 and grocery shopping, de Souza said little has changed about how staff and customers interact.

“Everyone has the same understanding,” she said. “We have nice red markings on the floors for social distancing. We ask people to please be patient and follow the rules, and everyone is happy to do their part.

“I have not had one customer be rude or frustrated toward me. I think it’s our job as a front line worker, during all of this, to still give good customer service, the best we can.”

Dolorina and her husband moved to Dundas from Mississauga 35 years ago, after she came to Canada from Pakistan in 1975. An accountant, she was looking for a change when a friend in her church choir told her Metro was hiring.

Dolorina is a member of her church choir. She’s joined by her daughter and granddaughter — three generations singing together.

“I love working at Metro because of the diversity of the customers and I get to know the people in the community,” Dolorina said.
