Stoney Creek singer-songwriter Jason Dawson experienced the performance of a lifetime recently, thanks to pop star Bebe Rexha.

Dawson, 23, was pulled from the audience to perform on stage with Rexha during a sold-out Aug. 23 show at Scotiabank Arena. He joined Rexha for the song, Take Me Home, a track originally recorded with electronic musical group, Cash Cash.

Rexha was appearing as part of the Jonas Brothers' Happiness Begins Tour.

Dawson had purchased a meet-and-greet package to see Bebe Rexha, but didn’t expect the pop star to grant his request to appear on stage.

“I went up, I met her and then I basically just told her that I have two things I want to say to you. I have a goal to write a song with you in the next five years, and two, I want to go up on stage with you tonight. If you’re going to bring anyone up on stage with you, I want it to be me,” Dawson recalled.

After learning that Dawson was going to be sitting in the lower balcony, Dawson said Rexha made arrangements with her stage manager to have Dawson come through the barricade and join her in the spotlight.

“It was fantastic,” Dawson recalled. “I still can’t believe that it happened. It was everything I expected and more. She was the sweetest person, professional. She was amazing.”

The experience lasted for about three or four minutes, said Dawson.

“That was the biggest audience I’ve ever been on stage for and I just felt so comfortable with her. Nothing else in the world mattered. It was just the most comfortable I’ve ever felt on stage before.”

A massage therapist by trade, Dawson is hoping to get back into the studio to write and record some original music, possibly in the fall. He’s been exploring his interests in pop music, including working with local producer Brent Wirth, of the Hamilton band, Liteyears.
