The Fun and Recreational Hockey League celebrated the most wonderful time of the year with its fifth annual toy drive benefiting Operation Santa Claus Toy Truck.
The toy drive works in conjunction with organizations like McMaster Children's Hospital, the YMCA, Big Brothers and Sisters, Living Rock and more.
Between donated toys and cash, the 66-member league raised over 170 items that were dropped off Dec. 13 at the Wilson Street fire station in Ancaster.
“We had another amazing year,” said organizer Mathew Conte, who added the league collected $1,400 in cash to purchase additional toys.
The Fun and Recreational Hockey League (FRHL) toy drive carries on the legacy of the late Shawn Lawson, a player, team rep and friend to many in the organization.
The six-team adult hockey league collected donations from Nov. 27 to Dec. 11. The FRHL plays out of Ancaster’s Spring Valley Arena.
