Hamilton Naturalist Club prepares for Christmas bird counts

Community Dec 07, 2017 Hamilton Mountain News

The Hamilton Naturalist Club is holding the 97th Hamilton Christmas Bird Count on Boxing Day.

It is a tradition going back to a pair of adventurous birders in 1921 and has grown into an annual outing with over 100 participants scouring Hamilton for every bird that can be found and identified.

The club is also organizing the third annual Peach Tree Christmas Bird Count for Jan. 2.

The area for the count is a circle 15 kilometres in diameter that encompasses west Stoney Creek to Vineland, all of Grimsby and south to Caistor Centre. It includes a significant section of the Lake Ontario shoreline.

Interested bird watchers from the novice to the expert are invited to participate.
