uReport: Two Scarborough dentists awarded the ODA's Service Award

Two Scarborough dentists have been awarded with the Ontario Dental Association (ODA) Service Award for their outstanding contributions to dentistry through activity or service.

Dr. Raffy Chouljian is a former ODA Board of Directors member and President of the Toronto East Dental Society-created Brush-a-Mania, a program designed to promote oral health and awareness among young children from junior kindergarten to Grade 6.

He has maintained this initiative by organizing sponsorships and support, and enlisting many dentists to promote the program since 2001.

More than 500,000 children have benefited from his efforts.

Dr. Chouljian has also been an active member of Rotary since 1998 and is currently serving as an Assistance District Governor.

He has also provided two mobile dental clinics to remote regions of Armenia through the Rotary International Matching Grant program.

Dr. Jack Wasserman is an ODA member and has been volunteering for more than 30 years in organized dentistry.

He also served as an ODA Board of Governor, a General Councillor, and chair of the ODA’s Component Society Committee.

Dr. Wasserman is a former president of the Toronto East Dental Society and Toronto Academy of Dentistry.

The award is the third-highest award of the association.
