Students at Orchard Park Secondary School were pedalling hard and grooving to the music during the school’s sixth annual Inside Ride event on April 21.

The event, operated by Coast to Coast Against Cancer Foundation, raises funds for Ontario-based pediatric oncology camps and supports families affected by childhood cancer.

For Orchard Park student organizers Shari Nash and Gabriella Horsman, the event not only benefits a worthy cause, but also lets students enjoy a day of fun and fitness.

So what’s the best thing about the Inside Ride?

“Seeing the costumes and knowing that all of our hard work paid off,” replied Nash.

“The end result,” Horsman answered. “It’s so exciting.”

This year’s event was dedicated to Orchard Park student Sarah Stephens, a cancer survivor. Stephens also took part in the fundraiser.

This year’s Orchard Park Inside Ride featured 24 teams, each with four to six participants. Cyclists raced to see how many kilometres they could rack up on their stationary bikes during 10-minute intervals.

The event was on track to raise more than $10,000 this year.
