Cleaning services offer help for women battling cancer

Sherry Weavers wants to make sure women battling cancer know about a free service that can make their lives a little easier.

Ironically, Weavers saw the brochures for Cleaning For A Reason, but didn’t take advantage of the service when she was battling breast cancer in 2011.

Looking back, she says she wishes she had, if not for herself but to ease the burden on her husband who had extra work to do around the house while she went through treatment.

“I saw the signs when I was going through the cancer treatment and I never called,” said Weavers. “I thought there has got to be a catch and I wasn’t ready to deal with anything like that.”

Since the cancer care, Weavers has opened her own cleaning business, Three Little Birds, based on Heampstead Drive.

She recently teamed up with Cleaning For A Reason, an international nonprofit foundation which provides free cleaning services to women battling cancer.

“We’ve always been out there for the community and tried to help whenever possible,” said Weavers. “When we find out one of our clients has a family member who is going through something, we’ve given them gift certificates they can forward on to their family members.”

“Now we have more of an organized structure for helping.”

Women can apply for free house cleaning at cleaningforareason.org.

Three Little Birds currently provides two hours of free cleaning a month for two women at a time, said Weavers, and is planning to expand that philanthropy as the business grows.
