The Erland Lee Museum hosted the Step Back in Time event last Saturday.

The fundraiser included crafts, games, food and activities showcasing life in the 19th and 20th centuries. The museum is known as the birthplace of the Women’s Institute movement in Ontario and now hosts the head office of the Federated Women’s Institutes of Ontario (FWIO).

For nearly two centuries, the home was inhabited by Erland and Janet Lee and their descendants. It has since been preserved as a museum which is open to the public.

The home was purchased by the FWIO in 1972 and has been restored to its 1897 splendour.

The white board and batten house is an example of Gothic Architecture and is furnished with artifacts from 1790 to 1930. Some of the of the items are original to the six generations of the Lee family who lived there between 1808 and 1971.

The museum is open to the public for tours. Click here for details.
