Sherwood Saints win Division 2 girls soccer title

The Sherwood Saints are the Hamilton high school Division 2 girls soccer champions after edging the Sir Winston Churchill Bulldogs 3-2 Monday.

The teams played to a 2-2 draw in regulation time. Allanah Yates scored both regulation goals for the Saints; Jessica Magliocco and Emma Hordienko scored for the Bulldogs.

After a scoreless 10-minute overtime, the teams scored three goals apiece — Kourtney Weoodhouse, Billie Colibaba and Chloe DiBenedetto and Jordan Montgomery, Sydney Doyle and Emma Young for the Bulldogs — in the first five penalty kicks.

Mikayla Attenburg scored to give Sherwood the championship when she scored during the sudden death kicks.

The Saints last won a girls soccer title in 2012-2013, when they beat Parkside 2-0 for the Division 2 crown.
