The move by the Junior A Hamilton Red Wings to Markham should be made official Wednesday morning.

A news conference is slated for 11 a.m. at the Markham Centennial Community Centre at which time it is expected to be announced that the Red Wings have relocated to the Toronto area community.

According to a news release from the Ontario Junior Hockey League, a number of league and City of Markham officials will be on hand for the announcement.

Markham has been without a junior hockey club since the Waxers franchise was suspended by the OJHL for financial and operational reasons prior to the 2012-2013 campaign.

The Red Wings were formed under local ownership in 1977 as the Hamilton Kilty B’s Junior B franchise and in 1993 the club became a tier two Junior A franchise.

Current owner Stuart Hyman purchased the club in 2003 and renamed the franchise the Red Wings.
