CLARINGTON -- Dave Taylor, who has lived in Clarington for 50 years, has been named a Clarington torch bearer for the upcoming Pan Am Games.

The 74-year-old has run more than 36 marathons in his life. He placed in the top 200 in the Boston Marathon and was part of the relay team that ran from Toronto to Montreal for the 1976 Olympics.

He lives in Hampton where he coached soccer when his kids were young and opened the door to girls so they could play on the boys’ teams.

Mr. Taylor still runs regularly and likes to cheer on his grandchildren at sporting events.

“I’m looking forward to the events in Oshawa, I think that’s where the gumption is going to be.”
