Spring cleaning in downtown Oshawa in preparation for Pan Am Games

OSHAWA -- Community organizations are coming together to clean the downtown streets of Oshawa Wednesday, April 22.

The Community with Brooms event brings out representatives of community organizations to sweep the streets, wash windows and take out the trash. Volunteers from the Downtown Board of Management, MP Colin Carrie, Durham Regional Police, John Howard Society and the City of Oshawa will descend on the area from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. to beautify it in advance of the Pan Am Games in July.

During the Toronto 2015 Pan Am Games, the events of boxing and weightlifting will be held at the General Motors Centre in the downtown.

The cleanup is designed to foster community pride, build partnerships and raise awareness of the impact of graffiti and other vandalism.

Residents can register to help with cleanup efforts by sending an e-mail to brooms@jhsd.ca . Communities with Brooms is part of the city’s annual Community Clean-up Week, April 19-25.
