AJAX -- Meaghan Baird of Ajax may get to experience playing some international baseball in her hometown.

Baird is among the 32 players announced by Baseball Canada who have been invited to the women’s national team selection camp in Toronto from May 10-17. The camp will be used to determine the 18 athletes who will represent Canada at the Pan American Games. The women’s baseball competition will take place from July 20-26 in Ajax.

“The 32 athletes that will attend the selection camp have demonstrated the ability to compete at a high level,” said national team manager André Lachance. “Our coaching staff anticipates an extremely competitive camp with only roster 18 spots available.’

The camp will take place at Rogers Centre in Toronto on May 11, 12, 16 and 17. From May 13-15 the camp will shift to a yet-to-be-determined venue in the Greater Toronto Area. A detailed schedule will be announced at a later date.

Baird grew up playing fastball, and attended Tiffin University in Ohio on scholarship.
