Can you stand the heat? Firefighters chili cook-off

Hamilton’s firefighters are known for putting out fires. But on Saturday, Sept. 19, there’s going to be some major heat turned on during the First Annual Hamilton Firefighters Chili Cook-off.

Twenty teams will compete for the the title of Chili Master, Best Chili and People’s Chili Choice, and the honour of raising the Five Alarm Cup for the first time. The event will take place between 11 a. m. to 6 p. m.

The chili cook-off will be held at Ferguson Station, corner Ferguson Avenue and King Street East.

The HPFFA donates more than $100,000 to various initiatives each year. All funds raised will assist worthy organizations like the Burn Unit at Hamilton General, Juravinski Cancer Centre, inner-city breakfast programs, Ronald McDonald House, Heart and Stroke, women’s shelters, MS Society, and many more.

The event is free to get in. You can buy a chili pass for $15 which gives you 20 samples. Samples go for $1 each after the limited number of 200 passes are sold. Refreshments will also be available.
