Originally settled by Amish Mennonites, their decedents continue to live in the area and are part of the heritage that gives each settlement and town its quaint appeal. Horse drawn buggies can be seen along the roadways and visitors can drive through the circa 1880 West Montrose Covered “Kissing” Bridge, the only one of its kind in the province.

“Catch the Culture” is an annual publication of the New Hamburg Independent, a community newspaper established in 1878, two years before the historic bridge.

This is an invitation to experience the traditional and evolving local culture of the communities supported by the newspaper for the past 144 years.

“Catch the Culture” helps visitors explore like locals and reminds locals of the all that their communities have to offer.
