In response to COVID-19, the residents of Stoney Creek’s Bayliner condominiums created a “Task Force” to help others in the community during the pandemic.

Comprised of representatives from each of the building’s 18 floors, the task force organized a food drive on May 28, collecting 1,055 pounds of food and $135 in cash for Hamilton Food Share.

On June 25, the Task Force held a second food drive and raised $425 in cash and enough non-perishable items to fill two vehicles.

Proceeds from the second food drive were donated to the Stoney Creek Community Food Bank. Food bank manager, Ben Winter made a special trip to the building to accept the donations.

Task Force members hope others will follow their lead during this difficult time.

“We would like to challenge other buildings to participate,” said Task Force member Ann Elliott.

In addition to the Task Force, the Bayliner has a weekly event on Friday evenings, with social distancing in place. At 7 p.m., Bayliner residents get together to sing “O Canada” and “Up Here in Canada,” standing on their balconies or outside at a safe distance. The event has also garnered participation from the neighbouring Shoreliner condo building.

Members of the Bayliner COVID-19 Task Force are: Donna and Mike Babij, Carol Belacca (alternate Lynn and Kevin Dahl), Rachel and Walter Cairns, Jinny Day, Ann Elliott, Mary Ann Guenther, Dianne Granham, Nettie and Peter Handlin, Jan and Barb House, Suzanne Jardine, Bonnie Kirby-Smith, Chris McVicars, Bobbie and Wayne Middlemiss, Sika and John Oosterveld, Joanne Parisotto, Lorraine and David Stevens, Lilia Waller and superintendents Iver Tibbetts, Teresa Fillier and Jim Plott.
