Dundas moms of all ages are making play dates, getting valuable advice, and buying and selling used baby items, thanks to a Facebook page dedicated to Valley Town parents.
Dundas Moms Network is the name of a Facebook group started 10 months ago by new mother Mandy Engelhardt. The middle school teacher lived in Dundas for five years before giving birth to her first child, an adorable curly-haired moppet named Heidi.
During the first part of her maternity leave, Engelhardt had her hands full adjusting to life with a newborn. But as the family adapted to include the beloved newcomer, Engelhardt started to look for activities both she and her daughter would enjoy.
“I was at the point where the clouds had started to clear. I needed to get out of the house for a bit and it was time to meet some new local moms.”
Engelhardt’s intent was to develop a forum where moms could feel comfortable making play and stroller dates, offer the opportunity for buying and selling, and provide a place for advice from other moms who had “been there, done that.”
Since the fall of last year the Facebook group has welcomed 150 members and continues to grow. Engelhardt said she meets weekly, primarily at the Dundas Driving Park, with other moms to do a couple of laps around the park, take advantage of the splash pad or simply sit and chat.
Along with her initial goals of linking up with other moms, Engelhardt said the Facebook group has helped stay-at-home working moms publicize their businesses, provided recommendations on everything from doctors and dentists, to daycare and seamstress services, shared hidden Dundas gems and raised awareness of community events.
“It’s a great place to come together and we would love more Dundas moms to join our group,” said Engelhardt.
