Girl Guides go green for Earth Day

Stoney Creek News

Next Tuesday, April 22, local girls and leaders from Girls Guides of Canada in Hamilton will celebrate Earth Day with a full day of activities in Eastgate Square’s Sears court.

The Earth Day Girl Guides Operation Earth Challenge runs from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Guide leaders will be available at Sears Court to help children and parents create items such as a recyclable planter and a popsicle stick puzzle. In addition, tasty Girl Guide cookies will be available for purchase throughout the day at the Girl Guides table.

From 6-8 p.m. girls and leaders from local guiding units will conduct an Earth Day Challenge meeting in Sears Court. The girls will engage in a round robin of Earth Day recycling crafts, including making a toilet paper planter, laundry soap and rain gauge.  The girls will also take part in a pop can and plastic bottle recycling challenge and will create a pyramid of these recyclable items in Sears court.

At 7:30 p.m. the girls will host a meeting and take part in a guiding sing-along “campfire” during which Earth Day challenge crests will be presented to the participating Girl Guides.

Admission to all events is free.  For further information about Earth Day Operation Earth Challenge at Eastgate Square, contact customer service at 905-561-2444, or visit the website at www.eastgatesquare.ca.
