Ontario Bamboo and the Kawayan Movement celebrated World Bamboo Day for the first time in Canada Sept. 16 on Green Mountain Road East in Stoney Creek.

More than 100 guests attended planted a bamboo plant as part of the ceremony. Guests included Dr. Cherla Sastry, University of Toronto faculty and former director of the Canadian International Development Agency, who established the International Bamboo Association, as well as professor Sashi Kant of the University of Toronto.

Ontario Bamboo is the only company in Canada to have discovered winter bamboo, which can be farmed in Ontario to use for their bamboo beverages.
