A distinctive wine event will warm up the winter and make a difference to families staying at the Mark Preece Family House, a “home away from home” for families of critical care patients being treated at Hamilton area hospitals.
The fifth Wine Winter Warmer event will be held Wednesday, Jan. 23 from 7-9:30 p.m. at the Hamilton Golf and Country Club, 232 Golf Links Rd., Ancaster. Tickets are $150 per person.
The wine tasting event has raised more than $80,000 in recent years towards the construction and ensuing operation of the Mark Preece Family House. The house opened in April 2011 and since then has provided affordable, accessible accommodation to more than 800 families of acute-care patients.
Featured at the event will be a silent auction showcasing a wide array of both domestic and international wines donated by local collectors and wineries. All proceeds will be used to fund the ongoing operations of Mark Preece Family House.
The house is located at 191 Barton Street East, one block from the Hamilton Health Sciences’ General Hospital site. The home is named in honour of Dr. Mark Preece, a member of the intensive care team at Hamilton Health Sciences who died in 1997 at the age of 38. The house offers all the comforts of home for families who have travelled to Hamilton and are experiencing stressful and uncertain situations regarding the health of their hospitalized loved ones.
House operations are funded entirely by room rentals, fundraising and donations.
