Jazz in the Hubs continues to bring music to city

Jazz in the Hubs, the concert program for Hamilton elementary school children in inner-city neighbourhoods, returned May 3 with a concert at the new East Kiwanis Community Centre.

AIFEC (An Instrument for Every Child) partnered with STAR Hamilton to bring Jazz in the Hubs to the recently opened East Kiwanis Community Centre in the McQuesten neighbourhood.

Jazz in the Hubs brought together children from programs run by STAR Hamilton, Banyan Community Services, SNAP Connection, the Boys and Girls Club of Hamilton and the St. Helen’s Early Learning and Care Centre. Featuring the Mohawk College Student Big Band, Mohawk College Faculty and members of the Hamilton Music Collective (HMC).

Jazz in the Hubs consists of an introduction and demonstration of each instrument, a performance by the Mohawk College Big Band and a hands-on session where the students try the instruments from each of the four main instrumental sections of the band.y the
