Charles Freeman wed June Martin recently at the Royal Canadian Legion in Stoney Creek and had photos taken at nearby Battlefield House Museum and Park.
While a wedding is always something to celebrate, this wedding at this location is even more notable. Freeman is the closest living descendant of James Gage of Battlefield House.
James Gage (1774-1854) married Mary Davis (1777-1853) and their daughter Catherine Gage (1800-1871) married William Freeman (1796-1873). Their son William Rufus Freeman (1829-1918) born in Saltfleet married four times. His fourth wife was Lucy Anne Smith (1873-1969) of Glanbrook. Their youngest son, Charles Wesley Freeman, (1905-1984) born in Hamilton, married Myrtle Howell (1921-1996) Their only child was Charles William Freeman, born in 1944.
