Food for you and Fido

A pair of Mountain residents believe their new business will be a howling success
With a motto of “Treat yourself, treat your pet,” Rose and Gary Lidbetter recently opened the doors to Munchies Coffee and Barkery.
Emphasis on the bark.
Rose founded Munchies Barkery by creating recipes with a veterinary nurse.
After three years of baking specialized treats in their home and selling them at farm markets, the Lidbetters opened their new business in January in the Goodness Me plaza on Upper Gage.
Rose says the pet snacks contain Omega 3, flaxseed, organic and brown rice flour, wild salmon, fruit and vegetables that provide vitamins and minerals which is essential for a dog or cat’s coat and overall health. Gary proves the taste and nutritional value by taking a bite and explaining he often eats the pet treats.
“A lot of people say, ‘Can I have some of this?’ and they can, it’s all human-grade,” says Gary.
Not that Munchies limited to fresh pet food. There’s the regular baked good — muffins, cookies, baclava, canolis and croissants — for humans and Fido probably isn’t interested in the fair trade organic coffee.
“If you don’t have pets, that’s fine, too,” says Gary.
Pets aren’t allowed inside yet, but the owners are working with the city to figure out a way it can happen under municipal bylaws.
