Four-year-old Kaytee Soulier and Erin Hayhurst were hoping to reel in the big one at the 17th annual fishing derby, hosted by the Stoney Creek Lions in May at Fifty Point Conservation Area.

Fish without a licence beginning Saturday

Canadians can fish without a licence in Ontario during Family Fishing Week, which begins Saturday and continues until July 13.

Family Fishing Week is supported by the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters, Canadian Sportfishing Industry Association, Canadian National Sportfishing Foundation and many local sponsors and volunteers. Those who fish without a licence during Family Fishing Week must still follow the conservation licence limits set out in the 2014 Recreational Fishing Regulations Summary.

While Canadians may fish without a licence during Family Fishing Week, non-residents still require a licence.
