Ancaster Film Fest screens one of the best international films of 2011, A Separation, on Wednesday, Feb. 22 at Ancaster Silver City.

Film fest screens Academy Award double nominee

Ancaster Film Fest will screen A Separation (Persian with English subtitles) on Wednesday, Feb. 22 at 1, 4 and 7:15 p.m. at Ancaster Silver City.

Box office opens at 12:15, 3:15 and 6:15 p.m. Non-member tickets are $9 for the matinees and $10 for the evening.

The Iranian masterwork by director Asghar Farhadi was the first runner up for the Audience Award at the 2011 Toronto International Film Festival, just after its world premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival, where it was the first film to win three major prizes.

The story involves a separation between a wife who desires a better life for her daughter and a husband who cannot leave his ill father. The consequences of this separation unfold with increasingly serious dramatic tensions. A Separation is nominated for Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film and Best Original Screenplay. It has won or been nominated for 80 other international awards.

Proceeds from the screenings will go to the Hamilton Out of the Cold program and the Ancaster Food Drive. From the previous film, Ancaster Film Fest donated $1,400 to the Hamilton Out of the Cold Program.
